Boycott the 81st Academy Awards (Oscars 2009)

The announced nominations for the 2009 Academy Awards show the Oscars to be out of touch with viewers and critics. They snub many noteworthy films and individuals including:


The Dark Knight - Best Picture (among other awards) - #5 on IMDB Top 250 (the only film of the last decade in the top ten), 94\% on Rotten Tomatoes, 2nd highest grossing film of all time

*Other Best Picture snubs include The Wrestler, Gran Torino, Revolutionary Road, and Doubt.

*Wall-E, Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Let the Right One In are also snubbed, not that an animated, comedy or foreign language film would ever be nominated.

*The Reader is nominated despite absence from IMDB Top 250 and Rotten Tomatoes Top 100 for 2008, and a measly $8 million gross

Bruce Springsteen: "The Wrestler" - Best Original Song, the Best Original Song category was reduced to three nominees for no announced reason

Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) - Best Director

Leonardo DiCaprio (Revolutionary Road) - Best Actor

Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road) - Best Actress (nominated for The Reader)

Let the Right One In - Best Foreign Language film

Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) - Best Actor

Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire) - Best Supporting Actress

Waltz with Bashir (and all other traditionally animated films) - Best Animated Feature - Only 3 nominees produced for Best Animated Feature, all use 3D animation

These clear omissions show the Oscars to no longer be any way to judge a film's merits and therefore should be boycotted to either (A) force the Academy to improve itself for 2010 or (B) create a demand for a more worthy award to replace the Oscars.
