[Hart: No Christmas at WB
They won't be hanging any tinsel or stockings at WB this year. Melissa Joan Hart, star of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, says the network has put the kibosh on holiday episodes for all its shows, according to syndicated columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith.
"We're not allowed to do a Christmas show," says Hart. "The network is afraid that if a tragedy happens in the country and we have to be pre-empted, the episode will never air." The folks at Sabrina had a holiday show in the works but turned it instead into a birthday story, which will air in January. "But you'll be able to tell it was meant for Christmas," says Hart.]
------------------------
Already several Christmas episodes have been cancelled, including 'Home for the Halliwells' (Charmed) and the anual Christmas episode for Sabrina the teenage witch.
While we have all suffered a great tragedy due to the events of September 11th, is it right to let the potential threat of more terrorism prevent any Holiday jollity? Has terrorism really reduced us all to that level of paranoia and negativity?
Where is the diffient, fighting spirit?? As a country and as a global community we need to stand together to prove that we will not be beaten into hiding. With that attitude we may as well never leave our houses - and put our heads in the ground claiming "The sky is falling down!"
Christmas will be a difficult time for many of the victim's friends and family at this time of year, is the spirit of Christmas to be shelved alongside the Christmas "specials" that everyone tunes in to, to experience the Christmas spirit with their favourite shows and TV stars. Is this really for the victims' relatives own good, have you even consulted them?? Why not offer to give all the proceeds of these so called 'never to be aired' Christmas shows to the charities who have helped through the crisis? Maybe have a direct hand in helping those who have suffered have a better or more comfortable Christmas. After all Christmas is ment to be a time of Charity and good will.
So our final plea to you, the wb is; Don't Cancel Christmas, there is little enough joy and laughter in the world. Let the shows air, use them to direct attention towards the charities who have helped in the crisis. This is an opportunity to be pro-active, not negative. Help those in need.
