Something needs to be done to sort out these problems.
The only way to ensure a truly competitive football league is to give each team an equal opportunity to compete. In addition, the principle that all football clubs are equally important needs to be established. Each club plays a role in its local community and provides the chance for local youngsters to make the step up to professional football.
Thus we propose that the following reforms are made to English football:
* The introduction of an absolute salary cap, set at a level that most top division clubs can afford before TV revenues are considered.
* That the level at which the salary cap is set also takes into account the financial burden of supporters (i.e. ticket prices), and seeks to alleviate it significantly.
* That TV revenues are shared equally by all professional football clubs
These reforms would hopefully lead to an increase in the competitiveness of English football's top competitions, reduce the financial burden of supporters (and possibly attract more fans to games), and ensure the survival of lower division clubs.
