It has become apparent in recent years that schools in Dunfermline and the surrounding area are not doing enough to prevent bullying. Instead of tackling the bully in any situation, the victim is made to feel issolated and left out. Suggestions from schools to keep victims in school during break times, to come to school a little later and finish earlier to avoid bullies as well as, in some circumstances, schools suggesting that the victim be transferred to another school are completely unacceptable. The focus in these situations should not be how to keep the victim away from the bully but to get to the root cause of why the bully is acting in such a violent way and changing this behaviour helping both the victim to feel safe and the bully to become a calmer, happier member of school life.
