Crosswalk Signage at the Boston Teachers Union School
Sign Now
The lack of signage, apathy of drivers and rush hour traffic patterns that overlaps with children, students, families and faculty going to and leaving the BTU poses a tremendous public safety risk particularly to very young children.
The goal of this petition is to convince the City of Boston (including the Boston Transportation Department - BTD) to install appropriate crosswalk signage, markings and signs - at the aforementioned intersection - as adopted widely in the neighboring Town of Brookline: http://www.highstreethill.org/advocacy/documents/DPW\%20Crosswalk\%20Policy.pdf
In particular, note section 2.7 relating to In-Street Pedestrian Crossing signs, The In-street Pedestrian Crossing (R1-6) sign may be used to remind road users of the state law that a driver must yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk at an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing. Another measure that can be taken is that of raised intersections as noted on page 5 of the following: http://www.myjamaicapondassociation.org/pedestrian.pdf
Either or both measures would dramatically reduce the risk of this very serious public safety risk. Please sign this petition so the appropriate steps can begin and action can be taken, i.e. meetings with the City, traffic studies, fund raising, installation, etc.
Thank you.
