Throughout the 2006 Canadian Federal Election, Stephen Harper promised that he would never appoint any unelected people to his cabinet.
On February 6, 2006 Stephen Harper announced he was naming Michael Fortier, his national campaign co-chair to the Senate and appointing him (someone who was unelected) as Public Works Minister. This completely contradicts everything he said during an election campaign.
The Public Works Ministry was at the centre of the sponsorship scandal and it occured because of unelected civil servants handling money. Michael Fortier is unelected and he has no right (being unelected) to be giving out Government Contracts and playing with Taxpayer dollars given the past history of this ministry.
As Concerned citizens, we demand the resignation or the firing of Michael Fortier as the unelected Minister of Public Works.
