Taken from University Of Canterbury Students' Association (Incorporated) Constitution and Rules section (1.3.1)
To The University of Canterbury Students Association (UCSA), Phil Ryan
The Current situation at UCSA food and beverage establishments is unacceptable. While we believe that the service and quality of the goods available is acceptable, the cost of these goods is not.
As you are aware New Zealand students are some of the most financially poor groups in New Zealand society today. It is therefore unacceptable that prices of food and beverage are set to a premium level.
We require one or all of the following actions to be taken.
1) Pricing control over goods sold by the UCSA eateries should be given to the UCSA executive, hence our elected representatives have control.
2) Prices of standard items are reduced through current controls. (ie beer, chips, fruit, etc.)
3) The standard 1liter jug is once again sold at The Common Room.
If none of these actions are put into practise or are undertaken to an extent deemed unsatisfactory, then members of the current student body will begin steps towards a referendum. The goal of this referendum will be to encourage these reasonable requests upon the UCSA as per University of Canterbury Students' Association (Incorporated) Constitution and Rules Section 6.3
