Fire Tim Banks

We the students and alumni are overall very happy with the performance of Central Michigans football team under fledgling coach Butch Jones, who has had the talent to maintain the prior success of Brian Kelly. But as you know, based on statistics, there is damning evidence CMU has maintained something else over the last two years: one of the worst defensive secondaries in Division 1A football history. Thus, we submit this petition signed by students, alumni and fans in general, proposing the dismissal of the force we find the most directly responsible for this abomination in the secondary: Defensive Coordinator Tim Banks. We make no threat to withdraw our support of the team; no attendance boycott or withdrawal of financial support is being proposed. We are simply petitioning for Mr. Banks removal based on the deficits of his job performance, and we hope this petition will lend both you and Butch Jones the moral support to correct this shortcoming. We base this decision on the following statistics:
Embarrassing Records
During Tim Banks tenure, Ohio, Ball State, WMU, EMU and several other conference rivals have set ALL TIME offensive statistics against CMU. These are not programs like Buffalo who found their way into the MAC in the last 10 years, rather they have been affiliated with the MAC for the last century. We believe it is not a coincidence that in 2007 and 2008 they all broken individual and school passing records which are decades old.
First Downs Allowed
Central Michigan is ranked behind WMU, EMU, NIU, Miami (OH) Ball State, Ohio, and Kent State in first downs allowed.
Red Zone Defense
Prior to the loss to Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan is ranked behind every team in the Mid-American Conference in red zone defense except Ohio and Kent State. Central Michigan is ranked behind 101 other Division 1-A teams in this category.
Pass Defense
Prior to the Eastern Michigan loss Central Michigan is ranked last...let us repeat thatCentral Michigan is ranked LAST in the Mid American conference in PASS DEFENSE of which Tim Banks has more control and more responsibility for than any other coach on Central Michigan's football team.
No Interception
Prior to the Eastern Michigan loss CMU is again at the bottom of the barrel in our conference in interceptions. Take away all of the interception obtained to a back up quarterback during the Temple game and Central Michigan is in fact tied for dead last in the entirety of Division 1-A football. Again the lowest common denominator is defensive coordinator and secondary coach Tim Banks.
Pass Efficiency Defense
Prior to the EMU loss Central Michigan is ranked behind every team in the MAC in pass efficiency defense accept for EMU and Akron. We are again ranked in the bottom one-hundred (104) in this category nation wide.
Fourth Down Defense
In fourth down conversion defense we are ranked 76th. This is in fact the highest ranking that we can attribute Coach Banks to having any influence over. Most of these stops on fourth down have to do with the talents of the defensive line who fates are determined more by individual talents in such close quarters rather than any scheme or coaching philosophy.
Anecdotal Evidence
As for the anecdotal evidence we could go with such glaring facts as that Eastern Michigan, one of the worst teams in all of D-1 football throws 80 passes on Nov. 28th against our secondary and we had only 6 pass break ups. Eastern Michigan also set the all time record for passing completions on Nov 28th, 2008 against our poorly coached defense.
Counter Points
The excuse that injuries are to blame would infer that at one time our secondary was good until it was devastated by injuries. Instead our secondary has remained consistent in its lack of fundamentals and technique, ranking in the bottom 100 from the beginning of the 2008 season until the end.
If it were for lack of talent then how is it we, a winning program and a championship program over the last four years, has less talent in its secondary than 119 other teams?
If its not Tim Banks fault than whose fault is it? And if it doesnt get corrected what steps will be taken to improve the sorry status of our secondary.
Conclusion
We the undersigned, request that appropriate steps are put in motion to have Tim Banks replaced as soon as possible.
