Fix Washington Boulevard

This petition is signed by residents of and visitors to Venice and Marina Del Rey, California for the following improvements to Washington Boulevard, West of Mildred to Palawan Way:

-Install a median West of Mildred to Palawan Way

-Replace the existing industrial chain link fence South of Washington with a more appealing and residential-area appropriate fence.

Detail:

- Installation of a median curb with foliage/flowers/trees. These medians are common throughout the area and having one on Washington will help make the street more inviting to neighbors and residents. It will also reduce noise, dust and the speed of traffic, and will eliminate dangerous U-turns from the turn lane, making the area more enjoyable for the large number of pedestrians and cyclists on their way to/from the area beaches. Further, the turn lane from Mildred to Palawan Way is not needed for the most part, as there are few turns, and this median will not impact businesses as this stretch is purely residential. This is a low-cost, efficient way to improve and beautify the neighborhood.

- Replacement of the industrial chain link fencing along the drainage basin South of Washington Blvd with a more inviting/pleasing design, and landscaping around it. Though the basin serves an important functional purpose, it need not be an eyesore. Replacing this fence with a more pleasing fence and creating an inviting look to the basin's border will make visiting the area more enjoyable for local residents and visitors alike. This is also a low-cost, efficient way to improve the area.

I support these actions and request that our local government move to make these improvements as soon as possible.
