(I understand this is long, and I apologize for that, but bear with me. I feel the rambling, in this case, is really quite necessary)
Its only been about an hour and a half since I heard the news, and already I can tell Im not the only person who feels COMPLETELY justified in being outraged about this. No outraged doesnt even begin to cover it. It would be pointless to waste any more time trying to put how I and countless others MUST feel into words anyone could possibly understand at this point. Not only does this leave me crushed, having been a loyal and hopeless HP fanatic since I was about eight or nine years old, knowing now I have to wait ELEVEN MONTHS to see the next film, but the excuses that Warner Bros are dishing out just piss me off that much more, if youll pardon my language.
Since the final installment of the Harry Potter books, and again, I know Im not alone when I say this, its like all the wonder has been sucked out of life. After I finished Deathly Hallows, I wandered around like a ghost for a week or two, knowing the only thing I had to look forward to in the world, now, were the movie adaptations of the stupid things. Again, I think you all know what I mean when I say a part of me died with Snape, Hedwig, Moody, and all the other characters (and again upon reading the Nineteen Years Later postscript. UGH). I NEEDED THIS. THIS MOVIE WAS PART OF MY MOURNING PROCESS.
Plus, my birthday is in November, and as a comment I saw on digg states so wonderfully, seeing the movies at the end of the year is like a holiday treat. What ELSE is going on besides Christmas and Thanksgiving? Those are holidays for family. HARRY POTTER IS AS GOOD AS FAMILY TO ME.
Of course, the movies are not nearly as satisfying as the original, literary versions, but who cares? Its all I have left now and I want to see that movie on November 21st, AS PROMISED.
Now, vicious ramblings aside for a moment, let me present you with Warner Bros reasoning behind moving the movie to July 17th, 2009.
---
"Our reasons for shifting 'Half-Blood Prince' to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers' strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films--changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer."

WTF IS THAT SUPPOSE TO MEAN??
Ill tell you what it means Warner Bros thinks they can make more money off of the movie by giving every single Harry Potter fan on the planet a VERY personal slap in the face and moving the movie back eight months. They also think they can make us feel more optimistic about it, because we get to prolong our fandom (a comment I saw on digg) and because it leaves less time, then, between HBP and the release of the first Deathly Hallows movie installment. First of all, thats crap, and second of all, their reasons make little to no sense. There will be no more Harry Potter fans in July, 2009, than there already are presently, or going to be in November of this year.
I realize that bitching and moaning (again, excuse my language, I cant contain myself and I by no means set out to offend anyone or sound belligerent) about their so-called logic will get me nowhere. What I am to accomplish with this petition and facebook page is to get enough online signatures to show the geniuses at Warner Bros that making fans angry will NOT make them any more money. I want, not only, to show them a massive number of people who are angry with them, no I want to show that there is a HUGE number of people who are more than willing to dish out the same billions of dollars to Warner Bros at the end of this year that they think they will be getting in July, 09.
Im not just an angry teenager spilling my guts out to the internet. I know better than to think that pure venom will get me anywhere, even though there are more than enough angry Potter fans to make a ruckus. What would that accomplish? WB doesnt care if were angry, they care about the money. True, from a business standpoint, if there are no other big releases coming out at the beginning of next summer, it makes a tiny bit of sense. However, just because there were TONS of big hits this year, does that mean next year has to be great too? NO. There is not always going to be a year as great as 2008 for the box office and WB has to realize that. Why not run with it now? This year has already been great for hyping up tension for movies HBP has been being hyped over for MONTHS, just stick with it!!
Like I said, this is to prove to them that they will be JUST as successful in November as it would be in July, with less anger and hard feelings on their part.
If you are angry about WB wanting to postpone this PLEASE sign and pass it on. By doing so, I want you to basically be saying that you WILL see this movie in November if they bump the date back, because the money WB can glean from that action will speak louder than words, ultimately. Besides, THIS IS HARRY POTTER, pretty much second only to the BIBLE. J.K. Rowling has more money from these books than the queen of England; does that NOT say something to you? Warner Bros, you are NOT going to lose profit by running this movie when you originally SAID you would.
Lets get Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince released on the RIGHT date November 21st, 2008, and NOT wait another year to get our fix. HP fans, show your support of this, quit reading and SIGN already!!
