In the wake of Bronwyn Bishops latest comments about the Islamic head-dress or Hijab as being an "iconic item of defiance", Australians have been debating about whether or not Hijab should be allowed to be worn in public schools. Having visited Islamic schools and met with Islamic leaders, the Honourable Prime Minister John Howard opposed Bishops push to ban the Hijab in public schools. *
The NSW Minister for Education, the Honourable Carmel Tebbutt ruled out any change to the uniform policy and supported the right of students to wear the headscarf as long as it was within the school code. *
The Federal Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, the Honourable John Cobb also called the idea of banning the hijab ignorant. He is also quoted as saying:
"The government does not seek to impose cultural sameness on Australians Do we ban nuns from wearing a habit?" *

Please voice your opposition to the remarks made by the Minister of Aged Care Bronwyn Bishop in regards to banning the Hijab in Australian public schools.
I declare the remarks of Bronwyn Bishop are Un-Australian and that Muslim females should be allowed their freedom to practice their religion by wearing the headscarf.
