Justice for Duke Workers During their Probationary Period

It has come to the attention of Duke Organizing, Durham CAN, and Union 77, that Johnny Hudson, a service employee at Duke University was recently fired just ten days prior to completing his ninety day probationary period. There are several circumstances surrounding this firing that cast great suspicion on the justice and legitimacy of this employee being fired - including the fact that Hudson had agreed to testify in a grievance process for another employee against a supervisor.
We the undersigned want Duke University:
A) to establish an ad hoc review panel immediately to examine an appeal concerning the firing of Johnny Hudson. To ensure neutrality, this panel should include representatives of Durham CAN, Duke Organizing, and Union 77, along with people from the University's Labor Relations board and others deemed appropriate by the Duke Administration.
B) to establish a public grievance process for employees working during the Duke probationary period in order to protect the integrity of Duke, the community, and its workers. A member of the Duke Organizing team and Union 77 should take part on it.
