As a result of budget cuts the university library is planning to close the physics library.
If you use or used the library and believe it should be kept open please take a moment of your time to sign this petition asking the School of Physics and Astronomy to either put pressure on the library to keep it open, or to fully/partially finance it, even if this requires introducing cost saving measures.
As well as spending much of my own undergraduate degree in the library I also worked there as a library assistant for three years and I believe it is of utmost importance that we try to keep it open. The usage statistics are not fantastic, but often people will simply use the library to look something up, or sit at the tables to read a chapter, and this does not register on the system. Often someone will get out a single book for the benefit of a whole group of people working in the library, or a workshop class or a lab experiment. Going to blue 2, getting a book out and returning to the Schuster building is realistically a 15-20 minute venture, even when the university is quiet, and often this is simply not practical. Furthermore, as someone who runs tours for prospective students I can vouch for the fact that the library is an excellent selling point.
