Julia Bowkun is a professional, classically-trained mucisian, performer, composer, and teacher with over 40 years of teaching experience. She annually leads the CCAA String Program to top-place honours in the Kiwanis Music Festival.
Julia Bowkun started teaching in TCDSB in 1973. At the time when teachers did not need a degree to teach. When Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts (now rated as the second best school in Ontario: http://tinyurl.com/bqfkatg) opened in 1991, she was hired to teach the music program to grade 7 and 8 Strings students, and later started to teach grades 7-12 Strings full-time. After 40 years of service as a teacher in TCDSB, Julia Bowkun is being replaced by a less-experienced but certified teacher. Ms. Bowkun certainly doesn't want to leave Cardinal Carter and her students definitely don't want her to leave. Her students feel as if they been robbed - many of them are still so young and have so much to learn from her including her excellent work-ethic, discipline and passion for music. When her students learned that Ms. Bowkun could no longer teacher at CCAA, most of them broke into tears. We all desperately want to do something and know that the CCAA Strings Program will not be the same without this teacher of exceptional quality. We desperately need your help. If you believe Ms Bowkun should continue teaching at CCAA, please sign our petition. Also, please tell your friends about this petition and share it on Facebook and Twitter. Our goal is to recevie 1000 signatures.
