Local 1 Stagehands Strike

As people involved in the theatre, theatre goers, and/or supporters of the state of art in the New York area and our country, we are signing this petition to show our support for the demands of Local One in its attempt to change the contract its members are forced to work under, and yet we encourage Local One to continue on to the negotiation table in anticipation of this holiday season, when New York theatre will be in high demand.

Besides hurting the producers of the shows which have had to go dark, we believe that this strike is unfairly punishing hundreds of local businesses, including restaurants and hotels in the Times Square Area during a time that is critical to the New York economy. By signing this petition, we recognize the rights of the stagehands of Local One and understand the importance of the terms and conditions they fight for (the prosperity of their families and safety in the theatre first and foremost) and yet encourage the representatives of Local One of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees to reach a compromise with the League of American Theatre and Producers as soon as possible.
