Dear Sir or Madam, RE: Location of new LCBO outlet/store in Goderich, Ontario The purpose of this letter is to ask the LCBO to reconsider its decision to locate the new LCBO outlet on the outskirts of our town. As you are no doubt aware, Goderich recently experienced the traumatic effects of an F3 force tornado. Along with a number of residential and industrial areas, the core commercial area was devastated; many historically important buildings have been badly damaged and the trees in our central park eviscerated. To have your retail store located close to or within the Core Area of Goderich would infuse the business community and the community at large with a well needed vote of confidence and encouragement. For these reasons you are receiving this 11th hour plea: to reconsider your decision to locate your store at the very outskirts of our town where it will have no good effect on our town. You have probably been made aware, through past meetings that there are a number of properties ideally situated to serve not only Goderich and area but would also capture business from tourists and seasonal residents travelling through Goderich via both Hwys. #8 and #21. As well, a location within the core area is a perfect fit with our community’s efforts to make our community a walkable, more active town that is less dependent on cars. We have been working hard towards this goal, this lifestyle. A lifestyle which your company promotes through its advertising and in-store magazine. It is understood that you have invested thousands of dollars already and have development agreement obligations. However, where this may be a good business move for your company, for our community the location of this one store means so much more. Surely, under these particular circumstances, reconsideration could be given, an exception could be made. We will rebuild our beautiful historic town. By relocating closer to the Core Area, the LCBO, a highly visible, high-profile business, could be a large part of that story, supporting our town and its future. This in turn would lead to further investment in the Core Area making it, once again, a valuable commercial area. In a less tangible sense, the people of Goderich would not feel quite so helpless, knowing that if we can’t influence nature, we could sway a business decision. Please reconsider.
