Loosen the current haircut regime at Brisbane Grammar School

I, and many other students do not understand how Brisbane Grammar School can possibly justify "molding boys into independent individuals" when they attempt to force our personal attire for traditions sake. Living in the modern world and seeing constant change on a daily rate, I believe it would be justifiable to start a petition to loosen the boundaries of the current haircut regime.
I was told by Mr. Micallef, Having short hair does not change you as a person. You can still be the same person after you have gotten a haircut This is ultimately true, and I do agree with the statement but I must ask; If having short hair doesnt change how I am as an individual, how exactly does long hair change me? I must say it would only change me in a positive light as it would boost self-confidence and would allow more self-appreciation in a society where most people Judge upon looks before personality.
I am not asking you to completely abolish the haircut regime but loosen its boundaries a bit. Having an unorthodox haircut would not negatively affect students study pattern, school behavior, academic results or respect in staff and other students and I do not understand how short hair affects these factors positively. If this could all be explained to me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Being a student who is starting my fourth year of education at Brisbane Grammar School, I believe my opinion should be listened to, respected and replied to with the schools opinion on this matter.
