Dear Sir or Madam,
I have formed this petition to enable you to see the importance of recycling, and urge you to consider how you produce your products and the detrimental effect this could be having upon the environment. Less than 10\% of the plastic we use is recycled, which is a shockingly low amount considered 275,000 tonnes of plastic are used each year the in UK alone, around 5 million bottles each day. This is especially damaging to the environment as the use of plastic in Western Europe alone is growing by 4\% each year and plastic takes 500 years to decompose.
Recycling is just one of the many things we can do to help our environment, and this is just one of the things you can help us do to protect the environment and the world we live in.
The difficulty in recycling plastics lies in the fact that there are 50 varieties of plastic, and the plastics must be within their individual groups and clean before they can be recycled. Currently a company can use whatever material they choose to package their product in. I propose that companies come together and decide upon which one plastic can be used to produce each individual product group, Such as Shampoo bottles, Juice bottles etc. I also propose the amount of packaging used to protect products is reduced, or more eco-friendly methods are used.
