"Martin Guerre" in USA and Broadway

We hereby ask for and express our want and interest for the musical "Martin Guerre" by Alain Boublil and Claude Michel-Schцnberg to once again appear in the United States of America, in the form of a Broadway production and/or a National or International Tour.







Preferably, though, we request to see this show reach Broadway, NYC, NY within the end of the decade. Despite the mixed reviews of the show during the end of the 1990's, in regards to some of the other unfortunate productions on Broadway that will most likely be promptly leaving as soon as possible, we feel that "Martin Guerre" would be more widely accepted and recieve the recognition we believe it deserves.







Spawning from said production, we also request a full soundtrack-possibly comparable to the likes of the soundtrack to "The Woman in White", with a live recording of opening night with only parts covered by intrusive noise (i.e. stage noise and audience noise and applause)-that displays the show in full musicality and entirety.







There may be the question of which "version" of the show to be produced-that being, the show as it was in the 1996 recording, or as it was in Los Angeles when it closed "due to the lack of a proper theater" in New York. The Undersigned have the option of posting a comment with their name on this petition, and with this may, to their liking, express their opinion upon which "version" of the show they would like and why. It is ultimately up to the producer and the composers which to produce, we ask that they would be wise to consider the past success of the 1996 production and its awards, and the many great reviews for the later version, and the grandeur of the story, which deserves to be expressed with more than a 10-piece "orchestra." Or, if rumours of more reworkings of the show are true, The Undersigned would happily accept this new version.







We wish to remind you that there is an audience for Martin Guerre, and now may be its time to be heard. Bad timing was possibly the reason for its earlier premature closing in the US, among other possible reasons. The show was looked at by some as a drawing of parallels to its time and our time in respects to the religious undertones, and we feel that it would in fact be accepted in the modern theater-going audience.
