NO TO CP Rail Yards!

We are signing this petition to voice our opposition to the CP Rail yards, as well as anywhere near a Longwood & Aberdeen site as a location for a future Tiger Cat Stadium.

We consider CP Rail yards site as well as any parcel of land near Longwood and Aberdeen or anywhere in the Kirkendall neighbourhood to be very poor planning to put a stadium on any parcel of land or combined parcels of land. The stretch of Hwy. 403 from West Hamilton to Ancaster is already notorious for traffic snarl ups due to many accidents. The added traffic for events such as the Tiger Cat games and also for future Pan Am Events is a potential nightmare. This overloaded highway will create an incredible cess pool of traffic at Hwy. 403, including the ramps coming off it to Aberdeen Avenue as well as other ramps used to get to a stadium at Longwood & Aberdeen. Many families and their children of the Kirkendall and neighbouring communities walk the streets in this area to access the trails and the lovely Chedoke Golf Course. We do not want to see Aberdeen Avenue and nearby streets turn into a congested highway in a residential neighbourhood.

We also believe that McMaster could be unduly pressured into making a land swap to give up their parcel of land(s). McMaster will be made to look like the bad guy if an agreement cannot be reached. McMaster University and the Innovation Park have had some solid plans for this west side of Longwood for a long time. The future job growth which will be NEW employment, will be jeopardizednot only for the present plan for a hybrid car manufacturer moving into this site, but also for attracting future business growth and employment. A prediction of 3,000 jobs in the City of Hamiltons future is more important to Hamilton than a stadium at this site. The expansion of the Innovation Centre is also important to the existing businesses in the MIP who are there because of the present and also the Future plans as originally designed and approved by Hamilton City Hall and welcomed by the neighbourhood.
