Nursing Students Affected by the Toronto Police Record Check

We are at risk for removal from our program through no fault of our own. We have clinical placements for our NRS 218 course in which we require clearance by ParaMed Services in order to be able to attend our placements.
A requisite in receiving clearance from ParaMed is submitting a completed "Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check". Many of us have contacted the Toronto Police RMS to check the status of our applications. We received information that the original 6-8 week wait time is delayed and has been extended to a 10-12 week waiting period (which we were notified of, until a call was made). As a result, many of us have not yet been able to meet the ParaMed clearance requirements.
On Monday September 20th, 2010, we will be unable to continue with the course (because we have not met ParaMed standards). Not being able to complete this course means that we would all have to wait until the 2011-12 terms to re-enter the program.
As students, we had no control over this and are looking for alternate solutions, support, and other students who are affected by this situation.
Thanks for your time.
