Open Letter to Bob McNair;

It is obvious that you are a smart, motivated, and successful man by any measure. Most notable to all of us Houstonians is that you brought the NFL back to our city. A city that is, for the most part, full of disappointment, misery, and lack of achievements in regards to our pro football.

And yet, when the Houston Texans emerged in 2002, we once again had hope, and a reason to believe that things would be different in our city.
Unfortunately, up to this point, we were wrong. We have had one winning season since our inception. And this year was to be the red letter year in the history of the Texans. Change was upon us. But it wasnt, we went backwards, or actually we remained exactly as we have been for five years, maybe a little worse.

The point? Simply put the team has issues with personnel and preparation which fall squarely on the shoulders of Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak. This team is not well coached in every aspect of the game, not just the defense, granted they may need some more personnel, but good coaches make good decisions to find ways to win, not find ways to lose, which is what this team does week in and week out for five years. Making one or two changes to the assistant coaches is not the answer because the overriding ideology still lay with the head coach, Gary Kubiak.

The definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over again and expecting different results. How after five years could you expect anything different from this current staff is incomprehensible? How sure are we of this? Because keeping Kubiak is a nearly unprecedented move because no other owner, current or past, has retained a coach for a sixth year after such poor results.

Great coaches with proven track records of success are available and rumored to be willing to come here, such as Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden, and we are sure others, because there is a great core here that is being wasted by sub-par coaching and decisions. If one of those coaches were hired the anticipation and love of the Texans would be renewed and at an all time fever pitch going into next season. Can you imagine what would happen to this town if Cowher came here? If you dont have the vision to see what kind of fervor that would be ignited if Cowher came here then we are afraid there is a bigger problem than with just the coaching staff.

Mr. McNair you are an intelligent businessman, you did not make a fortune making bad decisions or settling for mediocrity. Bottom line-someone must be held accountable. For better or worse, head coach Gary Kubiak must render the blame. And as a successful businessman yourself, and the leader of multiple corporations, as the alpha dog, you must take both the praise along with the blame.

As the Texans are a business and you are a businessman, we understand that the only way to enact change is to affect the bottom line.

Our signatures below are our solemn pledge to not buy tickets, merchandise, or any other officially licensed products until wholesale and drastic changes are made to the current management and coaching staff.

Mr. McNair, a time for change is upon us. Please allow us as fans, and a city, to have a breath of fresh air sweep into our town. Let a new regime to take hold. And then, finally, perhaps a new ending to the story may finally be allowed to unfold.

Sincerely,

The Houston Texans Fans
