Operation Gretzky

The NHL needs a new Commissioner!

Operation Gretzky has 1 goal, to make Wayne Gretzky NHL Commissioner by replacing the current one, Gary Bettman.

Gary Bettman has served as commissioner of the National Hockey League since February 1, 1993. During Bettman's tenure:

- 4 Franchises have declared bankruptcy (Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres,
Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings)
- 2 Canadian teams relocated to U.S. cities (Winnipeg to Phoenix and Quebec
to Colorado)
- He expanded the NHL by creating teams in Anaheim, Nashville, Columbus,
and Atlanta.(Which is good) But hasnt created any teams in Canada where
the sport was born.
- The owners locked out the players in 1994. The lockout lasted 104 days
and cost the league a total of 468 games. The 1994-95 season was 48 games
long.
- NHL Referees went on strike in 2001
- Due to Bettmans salary cap, a lockout eventually cost the NHL the entire
2004-2005 Season.
- In 2005, Bettman was named one of the worst managers by Business Week.


Now lets look at what Wayne Gretzky has done for Hockey:

- Won 4 Stanley Cups with the Edmonton Oilers
- Set 40 regular season records (including 9 MVP awards and 10 scoring
titles)
- 15 Playoff Records
- 6 All-Star Records
- He was the only player to total over 200 points in a season,
accomplishing the feat 4 times; in addition he tallied over 100 points in
15 seasons, 14 of them consecutively.
- Gretzky was Executive Director of the Canadian men's hockey team at the
2002 Winter Olympics and won the Gold Medal.
- He won 9 Hart Trophies, the NHL's most valuable player award, and 8 of
these were awarded in consecutive years from 1980-1987.
- Gretzky holds the record for most MVP awards of any player in North
American professional sports.
