PETITION FOR THE END OF EXTENDED LIBRARY BORROWING PRIVILEGES BY PROFESSORS of SUNY New Paltz
Recognizing the fact that professors on our campus our entitled to borrow library materials for nearly one half of one calendar year;
Understanding that students, who today are burdened by ever-increasing tuition costs, are allotted only one month for library materials;
Acknowledging the exorbitant costs of college textbooks, short novels and other nonfiction publications required for class or additional research;
Reaffirming our commitment to a quality higher education and accessibility of library resources to our fellow students; and
Realizing the importance of fairness and equal borrowing privileges for all ofthe privileged patrons of the Sojourner Truth Library of SUNY New Paltz;
We, the undersigned, as students of SUNY New Paltz, do hereby support a rollback of borrowing privileges by professors (lecturers, adjuncts, et. al.) of library materials to no more than 55 days and no more than zero renewals in a concerted and genuine effort to increase the availability of knowledge to the ever-deserving student population:
