Please keep SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY Student Midwives uniform PURPLE

This petition is to ask that the Student Midwife uniform at Southern Cross University REMAINS purple and does NOT change to white (which is the current plan for 2013). Below are significant reasons relevant to the students, staff and Registered Midwives highlighting why we urge that this change does not take place.
1. Purple - is a symbol for Midwifery Worldwide.
2. Purple shirts define the Midwifery students from the Nursing and Occupational Therapy students at SCU.
3. Midwifery students are known and recognized by their purple shirts.
4. White is NOT an appropriate colour for placement in a birth suite.
5. The purple shirt has been used successfully for numerous years and is now a professional trademark of the Student Midwives at SCU.
6. The staff at the facilities in which SCU student midwives practice are familiar with the purple uniform and change would cause confusion and more work for facilities which are already under pressure to perform.
7. Staff of SCU support the urge to keep our uniforms purple.
8. COST each student is already out of pocket $30 for one polo (more for those who own more than one shirt), on a student income purchasing a new shirt may cause financial hardship.
These are just some of the more obvious reasons for our shirt to remain purple and not change to the proposed white polo for 2013. Midwifery is a degree of its own, and many students have already out-layed the only money they had set aside for uniforms when they commenced the course.
We hope that this reaches those that are involved in the decision making process for Southern Cross University uniforms and urge you to hear our request as a united group with one ultimate goal 'Please keep SOUTHERN CROSS UNIVERSITY Student Midwives uniform PURPLE!'
