August 31st, 2011 is the Canadian DTV (digital TV) cutoff date. London is a "mandatory market" (as designated by the CRTC) so all local OTA TV signals must be upgraded to digital or turned off. The CBC has decided that London does not need or want a DTV signal, so has opted to turn off the local broadcast instead of upgrading it to digital.
