Secretary of State
Dear Madam Secretary,
We, the undersigned, consider the denial of a diplomatic visa to Mr. Narendra Modi, Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat, India, as a serious mistake that will have long term adverse consequences for US India Relations. We believe that important facts have been overlooked by the State Department in denying the visa:
1. The allegations are made by Anti Hindu and/or Anti American Groups such as Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), Indian Muslim Council-USA, FIACONA, and various pro communist groups such as Federation of Indian Leftists (FOIL). They do not enjoy the support of the overwhelming majority of peace loving Indians and Hindus in America or India.
2. There are only allegations against Mr. Modi. There is not even a single criminal case filed against him. A Commission of Inquiry approved by Indias Supreme Court has found no wrongdoing by Mr. Modi.
3. Foreign policy experts and ex-officials of the State Department have opposed the denial of visa to Mr. Modi.
4. Mr. Modi is the constitutional head of a democratically elected government in India and a potential future Prime Minister.
5. The Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Indian Parliament, among others, have demanded the issuance of a visa to Mr. Modi.
The decision of the state department is offensive to all Indians as well as Hindus who believe in due process of law, diplomatic protocols and stronger US India relations.
We hereby request you to immediately remove all diplomatic hurdles so that Mr. Modi can visit the US and interact with members of the Indian American Community as well as Americas business and political leaders. In addition, we demand that the State Department apologize to all those who have been offended by this irrational act of a junior department official who made a hasty decision based solely on politically motivated allegations and totally ignoring protocols and evidence.
