Hundreds of mainly Eritrean refugees are being held hostage by traffickers in Egypt's lawless Sinai Peninsula. The hostages are routinely tortured and raped. If their loved ones can't raise their ransoms, the traffickers harvest the hostages organs for sale on the black market and leave them to die.
Media organisations like CNN and advocacy groups including the UNHCR are raising awareness of the on-going tragedy, but no political pressure has been brought to bear to rescue the refugees.
This petition is created to mandate Eamon Gilmore, the Irish Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, to act politically and diplomatically on our behalf - within Ireland, at EU level, and in Egypt - and stop the trafficking.
Please help rescue the Sinai Hostages, who cry to us for mercy, by signing the petition.
Thank you.
