Retaining Hwa Chong Junior College

As past students of Hwa Chong Junior College, we feel a compelling need for this petition to voice our views on the recent name change. The following represents alumni members from both Singapore and overseas, whose hearts remain intact for their alma mater.

HJC has come a long way to become what she is today, and it is our School name and crest that has brought us thus far. In spite of her relatively shorter history, HJC has survived 30 eventful years, in which her undying spirit saw us through many trials and tribulations. Hence, we would be eternally grateful if the Board of Directors and the school would understand our heartfelt feelings towards the HJC name and crest, which are so dear and mean so much to us. They have toughened us in spirit in times of need and in trying times.

Some 16 years ago, the college experienced 4 hectic changes of campus due to unforeseen circumstances, and because of the strong college bond, we survived the ordeal as a school. We fondly remember the mornings at HJC, which were passionate times when we would sing the college song with much valour and loyalty. To us, the school name is not a mere name, but an entity to which we belong. To us, our crest with the 4 arrows banded neatly in warm red signifies the warm blood ties amongst all alumni and school.

All of us want the best for HJC, and we appreciate the schoolЇs effort in being at the helm of education policies changes. However, we truly believe that the name Hwa Chong Junior College and our school crest is what holds us and the school together, thus we would appeal to the school to retain the 2 entities. Few words can describe the loss within our hearts upon the announcement that HJCЇs name was to be scrapped.
