Save Georgia Music Programs

It has recently come to our attention that Senate Bill 474 recently passed, mandating 150 minutes of physical education a week in elementary schools, and 225 minutes a week for middle schools. While the health of students is important, this Bill would also destroy school music programs. Music programs in elementary schools would be wiped out completely, and reduce middle school music programs to two classes per week.
Obesity is a very big problem, although this is not the way to stop it. There are many other factors contributing to the rise in obesity, and simply increasing the time spent in physical education will not help this problem. It has been shown that music and the arts help test scores, although support for these programs is failing, with low funding and now almost complete program elimination.
We ask that you reconsider this legislation. It hurts more than it helps, and threatens the music programs which are so important to us.
