The Oshkosh High schools are planning on cutting over 30 teachers from their staff. They want to change the teacher:student ratio to 1:25. This means that there are a lot of elective classes that will be cut! This petition, signed by hundreds of adults, is to voice our opinion on this matter. We believe that the school district should find alternative methods of cutting money from the budget. We believe that by removing these teachers, and therefore the classes they teach, the district is depriving students of their chance to go to UW Madison or other schools that look for students who have taken the tough classes and succedded. They will not be able to find that if those aspiring students do not have the chance to take those difficult, rewarding classes!
Another set-back of this is athletics. Teachers that are cut coach many sports such as volleyball and tennis! These are sports which students enjoy. Studys have shown how great of an impact athletics have on students grades and this impact is amazing. If these teachers are cut, who is going to coach these students? The sports will also be cut, and nobody wants that.
This petition, to be presented to every administrator I can show it to, should be signed if you believe that this plan should not become a reality. Sign this weather or not this will affect you, because it may have an effect on your friends. This will affect students in ways most can't even imagine. Please, sign this petition. Support our cause.
