New Zealand's Hector's dolphins are on the road to extinction!
Even since fishing restrictions have been placed in waters around New Zealand that host these unique mammals, many continue to be caught in trawling nets and gill nets at a number that will ensure their extinction if we don't do something about it.
These dolphins are found only around New Zealand.
Hector's dolphins are hovering around 8000 in number (down from 30,000) in the 1970s. A related species is hovering perilously at 100 dolphins.
We call on the Minister of Fisheries, Phil Heatley, to act decisively and immediately to protect these dolphins from we humans who pillage the oceans for financial greed.
