Sexual orientation as a human right

We have come to learn that dozens of young men and women are to be stoned to death in Nigeria, just for being gay. We were equally appalled to learn that up to 16 young teenagers may have been recently hanged to death in Iran, for the 'crime' of homosexuality. Institutional homophobia is also rife in Egypt, and many other countries in Africa and Asia, wherein any alternative to heterosexuality is construed as abnormal, and worse, illegal, occasionally punishable by the death penalty.
Through this petition, we would like to urge the world leaders to unanimously condemn this barbaric act for what it is, and raise this issue in the United Nations as a matter of urgent priority. We also feel that it is incumbent on the United Nations to include sexual orientation as a fundamental human right in its Human Rights Charter, and urge the Secretary General of the United Nations to take the necessary steps towards this direction.
