SG-1 must live on

I will try to keep this brief.





As all fans of the Stargate SG-1 series know the Sci Fi chanel has decided not to renew the show for an 11th season...








The situation


Stargate SG-1 has now been on the air on a station or an other fo 10 years and has always continued to re-invent itself and even generating not 1 spinoff (Stargate Atlantis)but 2 (the second one is in development and fully backed by Sci Fi) Now the network has decided to pull the plug on the show after ratings fell after the combined retirement of the main character Jack O'neill (Richard Dean Anderson who left for family reasons) and the launch of the first of its spin off (Stargate Atlantis)





The Reality


Some may quote franchise fatigue similar to what happenned lately to the Star Trek franchise (that we love and hope to see back refreshed when the time comes)But spin offs also suffer when that happens (e.i. CSI rating fell after the spinoff CSI: Miami came out and both of those again when CSI: NY came out) This is normal and it is understood that Sci Fi is aware of this. Let this be known that we would rather have the SG-1 we know instead of a new spin off we yet know nothing at all, Both existing shows could use the budget to tell a lager story that could include what ever ideas had come up with for the new spin off.





StarGate Command





StarGate Command is a perfect place for a change of story, (e.i. The Atlantis show will always be about the Alterans or Acients weather the Wraith survive the current seasons or not, the city having been built by them but when te SG-1 crew got rid of the Goa'oulds the strory changed completely into something new and refreshed with a new threat in the ORI pretty much shedding the past to reveal a new skin and give us a new show.)





Any story can be told thanks to the versatile nature of the SG-1 show and the gate that can take you anywhere an open up new possibility of story telling every episodes. That is why we watch the show after 10 years of evermore creative concepts.





The show has litteraly created a Stargate universe


where people on Atlantis can solve a problem using technology found in a recent SG-1 episode.





And so on and so forth.

no matter what your reasons are, if we have the same goal let it be know.
