The American economy is in crisis. However, the principles of the economy cannot improve without a strong, healthy workforce. In order for people to be able to work, they must be first be healthy enough to do so. As businesses tighten their belts and lay off workers we will continue to see an increase in the uninsured and underinsured populations, leading to increased health care costs and decreased worker productivity. The only solution is guaranteeing access to health care to all Americans that follows the principle: Everybody In, Nobody Out.
Such a health care system must guarantee the following principles:
1. Any health care program we implement must be portable and cover everyone.
2. Quality: The health care program must include high quality care that includes the following priorities: medically necessary care, preventive care, and proactive chronic care.
3. Cost: The health care program must be affordable to patients and have systems in place to sustainably control costs while maintaining quality care.
4. The program should include a single portable electronic medical record owned by the patient.
We believe the most effective way to implement all of these policies is through a single payer system. We support the principles of HR 676: Expanded and Improved Medicare for All.
