We, as licence fee paying members resident in Scotland, hereby petition the "British Broadcasting Corporation" and "Scottish Premier League" to reach an arrangement whereby highlights of Scottish Premier League football can be televised in Scotland on a Saturday and Sunday night.
The stranglehold "Setanta Sports" has on television rights is unhealthy for the public image of the Scottish game, which is currently experiencing a period of growth and as a result of the high level of competition and is attracting attention on a Global scale. That the general public in Scotland cannot watch highlights of the top flight of their domestic football league at a more socially accessible time than 11pm on a Monday night is a disgrace to all parties concerned with television coverage of our national sport.
Further to this, the SPL's public exposure would be significantly more positive, and greater public interest would be generated, if the high quality broadcasting that characterises BBC production was united with the high quality football currently on show in the SPL.
We believe that in the interests of our national game, and in the interests of a democratic distribution of the licence fee budget, it is essential that an agreement be reached allowing SPL football highlights to be broadcast on the BBC.
