We as the Provincial Traffic Officers of the Western Cape are struggling to deliver good service to YOU as the public as we are forced to work under appalling conditions. We wish to inform you as the public of the following:
We are instructed by management to increase our fine-quota and are encouraged to treat our work as a business rather than a service to the public.
Some of us have to carry out duties without firearms which means we cannot protect ourselves or you in potentially dangerous situations.
We are also forced to work without basic equipment such as cones and two-way radios, which we leave us incompetent to render a proper service to you as the public.
We did not receive for the last three years pay for overtime work. But more importantly our salaries are not market related compared to colleagues in other provinces.
Shift- work has been instituted without the proper procedures.
The last time we receive uniforms was in 2005, some of us have to work with gaps in our shoes.
Furthermore we do not get promoted beyond level-5 as indicated in policy documents.
Management instructed us to hand-in our service vehicles on the 17/01/08 as we embarked three weeks ago on working only official hours(07:00-16:00) and not the shift-hours as we do not receive compensation for it.
We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause you as the public
We urge the law-abiding motorist and general public at large to contact the MEC for Community Safety ,Western Cape At +2721 483 3871/2/3 to take action against his management and meet with workers representatives organisation PAWUSA urgently
