The undersigned are extremely concerned about the decision to stone to death eight women and a man accused of adultery and sex offences in Iran. We understand that the accused are mostly victims of violence and have not received a fair trial. The accused Kobra Najjir, for example, is sentenced to this painful and slow death due to being forced into prostitution by her abusive husband in order to support his heroine addiction.
We strongly urge you to, in accordance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights to which Iran is a state party, commute all sentences of death by stoning.
