Support Closed Captions!

Closed Captions are an important aspect of the media today. Unfortunately not everyone takes advantage of them,thus ignoring a large segment of the population who rely on captions.


While major studios caption all their films,many smaller,but well known companies lack any captions at all. Since these cult/obscure/lesser known films may never see release from a major studio. It is very important that they be closed captioned. Afterall,it is ignorant too assume their are no deaf fans of these films. So not including captions is alienating a large consumer base.

The guilty parties in this case are...

Blue Underground
Anchorbay Entertainment
Image Entertainment
Troma Films
Shriek Show / Media Blasters

...along with every other smaller label(Unearthed Films,Synapse etc).

Anchorbay may have begun to include captions on their bigger cult titles(Halloween,Dawn of the Dead etc). Yet they still ignore the majority of their other 'smaller' titles by not providing captions or subtitles. This selective captioning is not right since all films have their fans. If you caption one title,you must caption all titles. Afterall,their are fans for all of these films out their somewhere and some will need CC to follow the films.


To the employees and owners of these companies. Imagine if one day you lost your hearing and were not able to enjoy your releases,because they lacked closed captioning. How would you feel?

Now imagine the millions of people out there,who are deaf and need closed captioning.Unable to purchase your releases,since it would be a waste of money. That is alot of sales being missed,since the releases are worthless to them and there money is spent elsewhere. Is alientating this segment of the population a smart business move? Is the extra effort for captions to gain more consumers not worth it? With captions,you cover every base,so those that can and can not hear can purchase your releases. Meanwhile without captions,you lose out on a huge number of consumers.


So not supporting captions is both insensitive,uncalled for...and a very bad business descision.

The purpose of this petition is too show the demand and support for closed captions. We hope you will listen and do the right thing in the future. But until then,we may just have to boycott non-closed caption releases. I have already begun to do just that....and know others will follow.
