Whereas, as members of the Greater Buffalo community, we believe that United States Representative Brian Higgins, New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer, City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, and the New York State Department of Transportation are making a severe mistake by supporting the Modified Alternative plan for the Southtowns Connector Project; and

Whereas, as stakeholders and taxpayers, we believe that the Boulevard Alternative, which was included in the NYSDOTs Environmental Impact Study, is the best option for Buffalos Outer Harbor for reasons including, but not limited to, public access, pedestrian friendly design, decreased noise pollution, aesthetics, and flexibility with regard to future development; and

Whereas, the Waterfront Coalition, City of Buffalo Common Council, Village Board of Hamburg, former Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist, the Congress for the New Urbanism, Smart Mobility, Inc., the National Highways to Boulevards Initiative, and countless community members have joined together in support of the Boulevard Alternative; and

Now Therefore Be It Resolved, we demand that our voices be heard. We do not want another highway on our waterfront and respectfully request that the New York State Department of Transportation stop its Modified Alternative plan.

Be It Further Resolved, we are not supportive of second-rate plans for our community and are, instead, supportive of the best possible option for our waterfront the Boulevard Alternative.
