The foreign policy of the United States government toward Burma and the dictators who control the country; brutalize, attack and drive out its ethnic people; suppress and exploit all who live in Burma; derive 80\% of their economy from the production and exportation of illegal drugs; and who are destroying the countrys natural resources and environment should:
Be broadened, expanded and enhanced to provide proper support to all of the 1 million plus displaced ethnic people in Burma.
Legitimize the ethnic groups political parties and other organizations.
Strengthen the ability of these organizations to resist the military regime.
Engage and lead the international community to bring about an immediate end to the regimes rule and control over Burma, by whatever means are necessary, to include just punishment for the damage they have done and the crimes against humanity that have been perpetrated against its people.
The conflict in Burma is the longest running on the globe and despite the fact that it has resulted in the death and displacement of over 3 million people, the destruction of a country and the burning and devastation of over 3000 ethnic communities in the last 10 years, it has never received the attention of the United States, the EU or the rest of the international community that it deserves. It is time to do justice that is long overdue. The United States must stand for humanity in Burma now and also stand with its ethnic people who have been loyal, faithful allies since World War II. It is time do what is right and called for in this policy paper, which outlines the recommended and necessary foreign policy changes this administration must undertake regarding U.S./Burma relations in order to help the ethnic people of Burma, put a stop to the killing, hold accountable those responsible for thousands of human rights abuses and to restore the democracy that was stolen from all the Burmese people and their country by the military regime/dictatorship that is still in power today. To do anything less would be a travesty and a gross moral failing of the American spirit, as we have come to know and cherish it over the past 234 years.
