Dear Rock N Roll Hall of Fame:

The Cars (band members: Benjamin Orr, Ric Ocasek, David Robinson, Greg Hawkes, and Elliot Easton) deserve to be nominated into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

The Cars were formed in 1976, but the band members were skilled musicians from other groups in the Boston area before that. Their titled first album was released in 1978 and it reached #18 on Billboards Top LPs & Tapes chart.

The Cars released 6 full length albums and one greatest hits album in a nine year period. Out of that, 16 singles made US Billboards Top 50. Some of these songs included: Drive (#3), Shake It Up (#4), You Might Think (#7) and Good Times Roll (#41).

The bands history meshes well with the history of music videos in the United States. The videos showed the bands quirky sense of humor and kept the fans imaginations guessing with the song lyrics. The video for You Might Think won the very first MTV Music Award.

It is 20 years since The Cars broke up, yet their songs have stood the test of time. Their songs are still played on Adult Contemporary, Rock N Roll, Classic Rock and Country Radio stations in the United States. Many current bands, such as Weezer and Fountains of Wayne, have listed them as an influence to their music.

Please reconsider The Cars as worthy nominees to The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
