The Family Summer Vacation Preservation

Over the last decade, Kentucky schools have moved the start of school earlier each year. In fact, some have adopted a year-round calendar. Because of the increasing pressure on schools to show improvement on the CATS Test, school districts in Kentucky have moved their start dates earlier in August each year in order to increase the number of instructional days prior to the CATS test. Neighboring districts afraid to be out performed, have followed suit. This has resulted in our summers being cut shorter and shorter each year.
What are our goals:
To get state legislation passed in the General Assembly that will mandate school start dates no earlier than the 3rd Monday in August.
To provide that all school districts have the same number of instructional days prior to the CATS Tests.
Provide waivers for schools operating on a year-round calendar.
Please help us by not only signing our petition, but by calling or emailing your state legislator and telling them that you are in favor of SB 134 The Family Summer Vacation Preservation Bill.
