This Hard Land

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the television series "This Hard Land" - a one-hour scripted drama based on the concept of the underdog rising above impossible odds to accomplish the extraordinary - be immediately designated for production in the manner in which it was conceived and developed by its Creators.

We believe that this series is unlike anything currently on the air and will serve to quench the thirst of so many television viewers parched for something more than the standard formulaic fair permeating the airwaves today. We respectfully submit that the television viewing public longs for something more that will capture their hearts, minds and imagination in ways nothing else currently on the air does.

To that endeavor, "This Hard Land" - inspired by the words and music of Bruce Springsteen - will deliver the goods for it is truly the next great human drama.

To quote one reviewer, Sarah Mauller, Editor in Chief of a Fairmont, WV based newspaper, I've read many upon many screen plays (although admittedly never for episodic television, mainly feature length film screen plays) in researching the industry, and until now I've become somewhat disillusioned. I haven't read many scripts that have engaged me as much as I feel these characters engage their audience.

We agree with this assessment for this is a show about real people living real lives in the real world. It is about everyone who still believes that there is something honorable and heroic in the lives they live. It is a universal story that anyone who believes in the power of the human heart and spirit will tune in droves to see and root for its resident characters as they strive to overcome the challenges of their lives.

Note on the Ratings System: YOU HAVE THE POWER - The United States Population as of this writing stands at 296,430,844. There are an estimated 105.5 million television households in the USA. A show's income producing viability is determined by its ratings (the percentage of households tuning in at any given time). These ratings are determined by data collected by a company called Nielsen Media Research. The higher the ratings, the higher the income a show can earn through advertising dollars. That's the bottom line: whether or not enough people will watch to make the network money. A single ratings point represents 1\%, or 1,055,000 households. A Share is the percentage of television sets in use tuned to a specific program. And did you know that these ratings are the result of data collected via Nielsen People Meters installed in - get this - 5,100 homes!! That's right friends; these 5,100 households (out of 105.5 million) control what stays on television and what doesn't. Once again underscoring the fact that one voice - your voice - does matter! And although the system is stacked against us - and you - together we can make a difference. If you remain silent, however, the powers that be will not care what you think and simply impose their will upon you. If you speak up and make your voice heard - they have no choice but to listen. It's up to you. Whether it is in deciding the fate of our television series or a political issue you care passionately about, people have the power - YOU HAVE THE POWER - to affect change.
