Tufts New Commencement

The university has recently instated a new graduation policy starting with the class of 2004. The new policy will separate graduation ceremonies into two parts. The whole student body will march into commencement. They will proceed to listen to the guest speaker and speeches. After this event, the Engineering school and Liberal Arts school will receive their diplomas in varies locations. In short, the Engineering school will be graduating separately from the College of Liberal Arts. Undergraduate students should be able to graduate together. As a student at Tufts, I feel that it is our right to be able to share the joy of graduation with friends and family. The new policy was instated in order to reduce graduation time. This may sound like a good idea for some, but we have spent four years at this University as undergraduates, growing and making friends. Graduation should take place in the presence of not just some but all of our classmates. This petition is asking your support in order to stop the separation of the Liberal Arts and Engineering schools. By signing this you are agreeing that the University should not have separate undergraduate commencement ceremonies. Thank you.
