Unconscious Bias Training at the University of Pennsylvania

Research shows that as humans we all have predisposed biases and preferences. Without proper training we are allowing ourselves to be blinded by these preferences and make suboptimal decisions. As such, The University of Pennsylvania needs to take an active approach in ensuring the equity and fairness of each of its search committees when hiring a new professor. With this goal in mind, we urge the University to have unconscious bias training for each search committee before they hire a new faculty.
