Use of laptops in lectures!

I'm a student of Computer Applications in DCU and it seems ridiculous to me that I am not allowed to use my laptop during lectures considering it's a course teaching us how to program and understand computers better. This puts students in DCU at a serious disadvantage compared to computing students of other universities where they are doing a lot more programming and using their laptops more than us in their lectures because they get more practice at it.
It is also a problem because I know a lot of people who can't take down the notes they want to take down fast enough and end up getting lost beforehand. Lots of these people can type at 50 or 60 words per minute and would have no problem keeping up if that was the case.
Please help us to change the rules governing the use of laptops in lectures in DCU.
Thank you,
Jessica McGrath
