Dear Mayor and City Council,
On October 13, 2005, the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer club unveiled a proposal for a downtown Soccer Stadium along the waterfront railway lands. Friends Of Soccer in Canada and around the world are strongly in support of this initiative, as the Whitecaps soccer club has done much in the past to be a responsible citizen, while advancing the global game of soccer to people of all genders, nations, races, social and economic backgrounds in North America. We strongly believe their stadium proposal is one of the most transit-friendly and environmentally conscious sporting venues in the world, and that this new stadium would bring great benefits to the game of soccer in Canada and North America.
As soccer fans in Canada and around the world, we, the undersigned, urge the City of Vancouver Municipal Government to approve the Whitecaps Waterfront Stadium project at the conclusion of the current, democratic public consultation process, and to expedite the re-zoning process so that the stadium may be operational as soon as possible.
