It has come to our attention that recently Mr. Irwin Cotler, Special Counsel for Human Rights and International Justice to the Canadian Liberal Party, has introduced a private bill in Canadian Parliament called the Iran Accountability Act.
This bill would seek to divest Canada from investment in Iran. It would also freeze the assets of those that contribute to Irans nuclear or military infrastructure, or in Mr. Cotler's words, "its machinery of hate". It would further use the framework of the international community to bring the Islamic Regime of Iran to justice through recognized principles of international law.
The Islamic Regime is responsible for the persecution of the Iranian people for the past 30 years. It is responsible for the arrest, torture and the execution of thousands of political prisoners. The Islamic Regime also poses a major threat to the international community through its development of nuclear weapons. Furthermore, the Islamic Regimes president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has publicly threatened to wipe Israel off the world map.
We, the undersigned, believe the Iran Accountability Act is a very positive step that can be taken by the Canadian Government to stop the global threat that is the Islamic Regime. We strongly support the Iran Accountability Act and urge the Canadian Government to adopt it immediately.
