A reform of the Web-services System in NSW public schools

We the undersigned firmly believe that the 'Web-Services' system which the NSW department of Education and Training (DET) has implemented in NSW public schools is cumbersome and impractical.

Web-services blocks access to websites vital for students, such as email and google research tools, while still allowing potentially offensive sites.
As a consequence, students from low income families are put at a significant disadvantage due to their being unable to complete tasks to their teachers' standards.

Web-Services is also highly inconvenient, due to the requirement of students to remember so many login names and passwords.

We call on Ms. Carmel Tebutt and DET to review the Web-Services system and to allow access to sites such as Hotmail and Google images, thus allowing a level and practical playing field for all NSW students.
